About this topic

Monarchy covers an enormous variety of arrangements that share little beyond heredity. This quiz covers major ruling houses in Europe, Asia and the Middle East, the titles used in each, and the succession customs that shaped their histories. It runs from the ancient world to today\'s constitutional monarchies. The explanations describe what a given title actually conferred, since the same word could mean near-absolute power in one place and almost none in another.
