About QuizKite

QuizKite started with a small frustration. The internet is full of quizzes, and almost all of them feel the same: cluttered, careless and forgettable. Four options, one of them obviously silly, no explanation, and nothing left behind once you have closed the tab. We wanted the opposite — a place that treats knowledge, and the people looking for it, with a bit of respect.

The one thing this site is built around

A score on its own teaches nothing. Knowing you got six out of ten tells you very little, and you will have forgotten which six by the evening.

So the explanation is the point here, not a bonus. Every answer on this site carries one, and each is written to add something you did not already know rather than restate the answer you just read. The timpani are tuned drums — that is the answer. That they have pedals to retune them mid-performance, which is why they can play actual notes, is the part worth keeping. If we cannot write something like that, we do not think the question is worth asking.

How a quiz gets made

Every quiz is made by hand, in the same order each time. We pick a subject because it is genuinely interesting or commonly misunderstood. We research it. We write the questions so that each one can be answered from the question itself, because obscurity is not the same thing as difficulty. We write the wrong answers deliberately, so each corresponds to a plausible confusion rather than being filler. Then we write the explanation, and check the facts against reliable references before any of it is published.

After that an automated review runs across the whole site, checking for duplicated questions, missing explanations, filler phrasing and structural faults. It has caught real mistakes more than once. The full process is set out in our editorial policy.

Where we are careful

Some subjects are easy to get superficially right and quietly wrong. In psychology, a number of famous studies have failed to replicate, so where a finding is shaky we say so rather than repeat the tidy version. In history and exploration, we write "the first European to reach" rather than "discovered" where people already lived somewhere. On religion, questions describe texts, practices and festivals and never ask whether a belief is true. On politics, they cover how systems work and never argue for one.

These are small distinctions and they are most of the difference between a site you can trust and one you cannot.

What we will not do

We will not put the good parts behind a paywall, watermark anything, or make you create an account to take a quiz. We will not pad the library with machine-generated filler to look larger than we are — that is exactly the problem we started out annoyed by. We will not invent testimonials, a fictional review board, or numbers we cannot support. The quiz and question counts shown on this site are the real counts, and the play figures are real plays rather than seeded numbers.

Where we are now

We are young, and small on purpose. The library grows as each quiz is researched and written, which is slower than generating them and produces something worth reading at the end.

Being small has one advantage worth stating plainly: everything here has been read by a person before it was published. That will not scale forever, and while it is true it is worth saying.

How this is paid for

QuizKite is supported by advertising, which is what keeps every quiz and article free with no paywall and no sign-up wall. Advertising has no influence on what gets published. Nobody pays to appear in a quiz, we do not run sponsored content, and we do not sell links. If that ever changes it will be labelled on the page it affects.

When we get it wrong

We will get things wrong. Sources disagree, established facts get revised, and mistakes survive review. When an error is pointed out we fix it — we do not defend a mistake because correcting it is inconvenient.

If you find one, please tell us. Naming the quiz and quoting the line is plenty; you do not need to prove it. Reporting an error is a favour to every reader who comes after you, and it is the most useful thing anyone sends us.
